In Amarillo, Sophie Dumont constructs a library around two distinct sections: on the left, light grays and off-whites; on the right, a yellow ochre that lends its title to the work. The books are suggested by irregular vertical forms, punctuated by the lines of the shelves. The balance rests on the dialogue between these two spaces, one more understated, the other more assertive.
The material retains traces of successive layers. The partially blurred outlines and emerging nuances give the volumes a unique density. The library thus becomes a space of memory, where the books evoke both the thoughts they contain and the time deposited on their surface.
This work was reproduced on the cover of Unearthing Platonism, by Lloyd P. Gerson, published by Cornell University Press, extending its link with the book and the transmission of knowledge.
