Libraries

Libraries have long appeared throughout the history of painting as spaces of silence, memory, and concentration. In the work of Sophie Dumont, they become sensitive, pared-down constructions in which books transform into rhythms, strata, and interior architectures.

Between abstraction and figuration, the artist explores the relationships between memory, space, and light through oil painting built up in successive layers. The libraries are no longer simply places of knowledge, but mental landscapes that invite contemplation and reverie.
