The composition is built up in successive layers, between mineral expanses, horizon lines and colored fragments that suggest in turn fields, reliefs or waterways.
The muted blues interact with the ochres, light earth tones, greens, and coral hues. These contrasts structure the space while maintaining a sense of openness and depth.
Worked in oil through layering, removal, scraping and reworking, the surface retains traces of its construction. The material appears, disappears and then resurfaces, giving the painting an almost geological dimension.
At the boundary between abstraction and landscape, Beyond the Lands does not seek to describe an identifiable territory. Rather, the work proposes a mental space, where the horizon becomes the starting point for a freer and more introspective perception.
