Les affinités secrètes explores the subtle connections between forms. Broad curves move through a structure of vertical planes, while divided circles echo colours found elsewhere on the canvas. Each element appears to find a continuation in another.
Ivory surfaces open up the composition, connecting burgundy, ochre and olive-green shapes. Muted blue and sage introduce cooler notes. The large square format allows the eye to follow the painting’s main directions before discovering smaller encounters between colours and contours.
Worked in successive layers with a palette knife, the oil paint retains scraped passages and traces of underlying colours. Variations in the surface give the geometric forms a tactile presence and soften the precision of their construction.
