Towards the Clearing is an oil on canvas measuring 50 × 50 cm belonging to Sophie Dumont's series of abstract landscapes.

The composition is organized in layers of colors and materials evoking plots of land observed from an imaginary point of view. Muted blues, greyish greens, ochres and sandy tones are traversed by orange and red accents that give the whole its rhythm.

The landscape remains deliberately indeterminate. The lines, overlaps, and traces left by the painting process transform the territory into a pictorial construction. In the upper section, a vast, light-colored area opens up the composition and guides the eye toward a kind of horizon.

A work in which matter and colour gradually take precedence over representation.
