In Epicentre, Sophie Dumont constructs a powerful geometric composition around a large orange-red shape which constitutes the true visual center of the work.
Curves, verticals, and architectural forms interlock in a dense balance where deep greens, earth tones, and blacks converse with shades of ivory, ochre, and muted green. The central color immediately draws the eye, while the peripheral forms seem to organize themselves around it.
The geometric rigor is deliberately disrupted by the manipulation of the material. Superimpositions, frictions, traces and erasures animate the surfaces and preserve the presence of the gesture.
The title evokes this concentration of energy around a central point. The composition appears simultaneously stable and in motion, as if the different forms were gravitating around a central core.
Between geometric abstraction and organic presence, the work retains an ambiguity that leaves room for interpretation.
