The composition is organized around an architecture of curves, verticals, and colored planes. Deep reds and blues provide the foundation for the whole, while turquoise, pink, ochre, olive green, and ivory tones establish a brighter rhythm. A small circular form acts as a focal point, around which the various elements seem to find their balance.
Created with oil on canvas, the work is constructed in successive layers. Rubbing, scraping and superimposition reveal traces of the pictorial process and intentionally soften the rigor of the geometric construction.
With Gravitation, Sophie Dumont continues her research around a geometric abstraction where structure remains inseparable from matter and color.
